Josh Stowers Te Kauwhata Obituary, Death: Beloved Baseball, Has Died

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Josh Tavita Stowers of Te Kauwhata — a much-loved son, friend, teammate, and member of our community. Josh’s untimely departure has deeply affected all who knew him. Known for his warmth, energy, and love for baseball, he leaves behind memories filled with laughter, friendship, and boundless positivity.

Josh was more than a talented athlete; he was a person who embodied teamwork, loyalty, and joy in everything he did. On and off the field, his passion for sport reflected his zest for life. Whether he was cheering for his teammates or sharing a laugh with friends, Josh had an infectious spirit that lifted those around him. His nickname, “Hocky,” captured his fun-loving nature and his ability to bring people together with effortless ease.

Our hearts go out to his parents, Kiri and Tavita, and to his wider whānau and aiga, who are enduring an unimaginable loss. The strength and unity of this community have been a testament to the love Josh inspired. A Givealittle page has been set up to support the family as they navigate the days ahead — a small way to show our collective care during this painful time.

Friends, family, and all who loved Josh are warmly invited to celebrate his life and reflect on the joy he brought to so many. Visiting hours to pay respects will be held at Simply Funerals, 449 Te Rapa Road, Hamilton on Tuesday, November 11th and Wednesday, November 12th, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Celebration of Life will take place on Friday, November 14th at 2 p.m. at the Hamilton Old Boys Rugby Club (Corner Richmond Street and Willoughby Street, Whitiora, Hamilton). For those unable to attend, the service will be live-streamed, allowing everyone to share in the remembrance of Josh’s life.

As his loved ones gather, there will be music, laughter, and shared stories — just as Josh would have wanted. The beats will play, the beer will be poured cold, and hearts will unite in love and memory.

Josh’s time with us was far too short, yet his impact will live on in the hearts of everyone he touched. His kindness, humor, and light will continue to guide those who loved him most.

Rest in peace, Josh. You will never be forgotten.
