The Urbandale community is heartbroken over the passing of Miles Phipps, a bright, creative, and beloved young soul who passed away on November 4, 2025, at the age of 15. Born on October 21, 2010, to Rocky Phipps and Ashley Campbell, Miles brought light, laughter, and love to everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Miles attended Johnston Elementary School and later Urbandale High School, where he was an active member of the GSA Club. There, he found friendship, understanding, and a safe space to express himself freely. Those who knew him describe a young man who radiated kindness and individuality — someone who saw the beauty in difference and inspired others to do the same.

His family, friends, and school community mourn deeply for the loss of a life so full of promise and potential. In this time of profound sorrow, the Phipps and Campbell families are surrounded by the support and compassion of friends, teachers, and neighbors who share in their grief. May they find comfort in knowing that Miles’ spirit — so full of creativity, courage, and kindness will continue to live on in the hearts of all who loved him.

To pay tribute to Miles Phipps is to honor a life that, though far too brief, was lived with energy, authenticity, and love. Miles was a young man of remarkable talent and imagination. His passion for music was undeniable — through his guitar, he expressed emotions that transcended words, creating melodies that reflected his thoughtful and artistic nature.

Miles loved movement and adventure. Whether he was skateboarding, rollerblading, biking, or heading to the skate park, he approached every activity with enthusiasm and joy. Completing RAGBRAI as part of the Dream Team was one of his proudest accomplishments, a reflection of his perseverance and adventurous spirit.

He was also a budding chef, experimenting with recipes and flavors in the kitchen, and found joy in fishing, attending comic conventions, and cosplay, where his creativity shone brightest. His kindness often appeared in the smallest gestures — a handmade trinket, a thoughtful gift, or a warm smile meant to brighten someone’s day.

Miles’ tender love for animals, especially his cat Shevee, mirrored his gentle soul. Though his time here was short, his impact was profound. His courage to live authentically and his spirit of generosity will continue to inspire those who knew and loved him.
